Formerly a railway pub, this is now a smart roadside food-oriented destination. The facade is classy, with duck-egg blue for the window frames and a couple of porticos picked out in brilliant white, though only one seems to be an entrance these days. Of course, most customers enter from the car park these days - I had approached along the former railway track, now a cycle route and footpath. Many tables in the right hand side, where there seem to be a couple of rooms, one in an extension, had booking notices displayed, but I ordered a beer and sat at a vacant window seat on the left.
Beers were Marstons Pedigree and Greene King Old Speckled Hen. The Pedigree was ok but not tip-top - a little disappointing really; unusually, my half was £2.02, presumably £4.05 a pint rounded down - they must spend a fortune buying in coppers from the bank. Service was polite but perfunctory, with what I would guess to be part-timers on minimum wage and minimal training. A similar lack of attention to detail could be found in the interior decoration, with bits and pieces plucked randomly from a catalogue, and ancient beams repurposed, if that's the word to use, as the frames of a door to the beer garden. No, no, and no. Good grief.
