Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Wellington Heifer

The Wellington Heifer can be found in the centre of the village of Ainderby Steeple opposite the church. It is around 10 minutes' drive east of the A1(M).

The pub has a number of sections. The lowest area to the rear has stone floors. A middle section is carpeted and the bar area at the front end was packed with locals watching the Lions rugby game. It appears that the pub had opened early to show it. We couldn't get a seat in the bar but were directed to a non-reserved table by the hard of hearing barman who initially thought we wanted to pay for 2 nights accommodation (we'd just arrived from an overnight stay in Bradford)! They do however offer rooms here.

The dining areas of the pub are nicely furnished and there are pictures of hunting scenes and an inevitable heifer on the walls. Most tables were laid out for dining but there weren't many partaking on a Saturday lunchtime. Outdoor drinking appeared to be limited to a couple of tables on a small grassy area at the rear of the car park and one or two picnic tables to the side of the pub.

Timothy Taylor Landlord is the regular cask ale. There are two further handpulls, with seemingly only one ever used for a guest beer, which was Daleside Blonde on our visit. The cider was Aspall's. This pub has somehow found its way into the Good Beer Guide, which surprises me a little.

Old Boots left this review about The Wellington Heifer

A dining pub on a tight bend on the main Northallerton to Bedale road. Opposite the church it sits sideways to the road, the main door and disabled entrance being on the side. Inside is basically long and thin, mainly open but divided into five areas. There’s a front bar divided from the entrance bar by a wall with stone edging to the doorway, the entrance area has the main counter with its three pulls and a T-Bar of two lagers, Guinness and Aspall, Landlord and a very decent Black Sheep Best on the pulls. A fire place divides the counter area from a small dining area and beyond down some stairs a further dining area and then a dining cum function room; the pub goes a long way back from the road. Parquet and carpet flooring, furniture is range of old dining tables with a mix of chairs and a pew. Tasteful print decor, mostly dog and hunting related.
