David Ross left this review about Franklyns
An extremely lively and popular pub, ideally located in the centre of town. It comprises a public bar, looking on to the street at the front, with a pool table and TV, and a separate lounge, accessed by a side door, at the rear. The latter features DJs at the weekend when it stays open into the early hours of the morning and has a disco atmosphere to it, with flashing lights and loud music (which permeates into the bar through the connecting passageway). The lounge also serves meals at lunchtime. In the absence of a dedicated outdoor smoking area, smokers usually congregate in the alleyway between the pub and the Chinese restaurant next door. The main drawback about Franklyn’s is the fact that the toilets are located upstairs, although, since they occupy the entire upper floor, they are, at least, commodious.
