Alan Winfield left this review about The Chequers Inn
The Chequers Inn is a long fronted pub that is situated next the shops in the millde.
This pub used to be a Shipstones tied house that had two separate rooms,we often had a Sunday dinner drink here, the Shipstones bitter was really nice.
The pub has now been opened out into a single room with the bar in the middle area, the room is dog legged shaped, the right side is carpeted and has very comfy bench seating and chairs, the left side has some bench seating and normal tables and chairs, there is a pool table and darts board to the far left.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Castle Rock Harvest Pale which went down very well, the other beers were Caledonian Flying Scotsman,Theakston XB and Deuchars IPA.
Decent background music was playing and the TV was showing cycle racing.
The new people running the pub have dropped hot food and put cobs on the bar, making this a smart proper drinkers pub.
