Much improved after its re-opening. There’s been a big refurb in the main bar; brightened, lightened and cleaned. Food, papers and muted TV sport noted. There’s a completely separate bar (for the jockeys?) accessed via the car park which is still dead basic and has a pool table – be careful not to get lost in the warren linking the two (or to mistake this room as the main part of the pub!). Two ales on - Courage Best and a fair drop of Ramsbury Gold.

The only place we found in Lambourn with any character, a bit olde worlde in the main bar including an old inglenook fireplace. Two pumps, just a vile St Austell Trelawny available. Beer garden with a view over the fields is – unusually – over the street. Some dubious characters hanging around outside. Nice pub, wrong location. Rated 5
