Reopened after a long absence, this fine Victorian hotel and mini-conference centre is tucked into the centre of Alverstoke, Gosport's posh bit. It is a tidy, welcoming place with a car park, gravelled front garden and a small paved terrace at the front. The bar, open to non-residents, is newly decorated and has a slate floor, stools, comfy chairs and various artefacts dotted around which refer to Gosport's maritime heritage. Afternoon tea can be taken here. Staff were friendly enough, albeit a bit absent minded, and there was free WiFi. There was a reasonable selection of wine, and two ales on draft. I had a pint of the Oakleaf Quercus Folium which was at the end of its life but still just about drinkable. I'd be happy to spend time here if they could sort out their beer.
