An old-fashioned town former Brickwoods pub in a rather grand building with a mock-Tudor frontage on a corner in a residential area, all in all very civilised and traditional. There is a large, noisy public bar to the right with dartboard and so on, and a much quieter saloon bar to the left with a carpeted floor, open fireplace and some interesting framed photos of old Gosport on the wall. There's a tv here as well, but it was turned off, thankfully. The main criticism of the lounge is that smoke blows in from outside when the door is open. The staff are very friendly, although the landlord does look a bit daft in his "corporate" polo shirt; maybe he was just being ironic. The clientele are inclusive and the ambiance is pleasant. Two ales on: I had Cottage Brewing's Hornet Ale (a nod to the nearby former HMS Hornet, maybe?) which was in very good condition but didn't try the London Pride. Worth including on a crawl for its beer quality and general atmosphere.
