I dont think I have ever seen a less pubby looking building than this - a literal barn, with no markings on the side. There is a pub sign at the road.

An incredibly posh gastropub (three steaks, one was £120, but was for sharing... obviously). A pair of idiots holding a full scale interview next to the only comfy chairs. I could not help but listen and inwardly groan - especially at the interviewer who loved the sound of his own voice so much, he was answering his own questions.

I digress - made to feel very welcome as a drinker and the Hog Back Summer Lightening was pulled through before dispense and wasnt even the most expensive pint of the my four days in Wiltshire (well done The Marlborough for that prize).

A pleasant experience and it is nice to find somewhere open at lunch.

A single room 17th Century country pub with tiled floors, beams and a log fire. It retains a friendly village atmosphere, although the landlord can be a little caustic. If your mobile phone goes off while your here, he will try to throw it in the deep fryer, which is not the best approach to customer relations. However, food is excellent - imaginative, well prepared and in sensible portions. There is a large garden with plenty of parking, barbecue and children's play area. Beers are excellent, and are usually sourced from local breweries. This time I tried the Ringwood Best and it was in perfect condition. Hidden away in the Avon Valley to the South of Amesbury, this pub is well worth seeking out for a meal (group or individual) or a decent pint, and is worth including in a motorised crawl (note that it doesn't open on Mondays in the Winter).
