Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Newcastle Arms
Basic two-bar boozer with a 1950s look to an interior that appears little altered in recent decades. The furniture and decor can be politely described as 'plain', but this now becoming rare so it has its own interest. Slightly surprisingly, it does still do a real ale - Theakston Beat (£3.40).

Called in as it was en route to the train station. A CAMRA heritage listed pub and I thought I might get a bit of interesting interior but no, just bits of a fairly unremarkable late 1950’s refit, the remains of which can still be seen in a number of other backstreet locals. There are two bars, the right is carpeted, the left is a more traditional public bar with pool and darts (and two local ladies were practicing their arrows on the oche). One ale on, a rather workaday Theakston Bitter. Currently it’s one for completists only but there’s potential here.

Awful pub which was only visited as it was nearest the station. You'd think somebody with some commercial sense would take this over and make it something decent.

Very welcoming pub with friendly and knowledgable staff. The only down side was the beer selection, which on our visit was limited to John Smiths and what turned out to be a beautiful pint of London Pride. Selected on our crawl for it's proximity to the station, it made the perfect meeting place and had we not found better places in town, we would probably have been back.

This pub was recently taken over by Laura and it is very welcoming. The pub is located close to Newark Northgate Station. It has been nicely decorated and is very comfortable. Laura and her staff, particularly Darren, make customers feel very welcome. The beer is good and there is plenty to choose from. On Sunday afternoons there is a 'Cheese Club' with a nice selection of cheese and biscuits including Brie, Stilton, Cheddar etc.,. The pub attracts all ages and has a public and lounge bar. St.Patrick's Day on Thursday 17th March 2011 will be celebrated with Guinness at £2 a pint and Irish Stew.
