A corner Wetherspoon's pub/eatery with a patio area, which was the former Chicago Rock Cafe and i believe may have been the Chequers pub before that. The main entrance is in fact a nice double front gabled Victorian looking building in cream render, with green brick and 'mosaic'. The rear of the building is a more dull modern addition in undressed brick, cream render and glass.

The interior is an open-plan room around a central island bar. Like all Spoons it is populated by food tables, mainly on the raised area further past the bar. The walls are in a mix of brown, coffee, green, white, with some wood panel and there is a patterned carpet and mainly white ceiling. Old photos of the area do supply some interest, along with mirrors, maps and other stuff. The TV wasn't on for a change, so we were spared the humour of the inaccurate sub-titles. There was no music. The service was fine and the food fine too - it was a jacket spud. The clientele were the usual mix, those drinking propped at the bar and the rest eating at tables.

Beer; usual Spoons tap stuff, with Abbott, Ruddles and several handpulls on, including Everards Gallentry, Smuttynose Murril MILD (USA) and Hydes Owd Dark - a MILD, which went flat quite quickly.

Usual Spoons. Go for easy food options and toss-a-coin to see how the beer turns out.
