This pub has a brown glazed tile facade, with the name of the origial but long-defunct Brampton Brewery along the front. The interior has not been preserved, unfortunately, but it was smart - as Craft Union pubs usually are - and very busy during a Saturday afternoon football match. There are two hand pumps, with a Doom Bar pump clip turned around and leaving me with Landlord. The barman apologised for the difficulty pouring the beer, which he attributed to an air bubble but was more likely down to putting the beer on before it was ready. I wasn't going to complain too much when it was priced at the equivalent of £2.80 a pint! (Just a week later I paid £5.20 for a pint of the same beer in York.) There was a good atmosphere here, with most people enjoying the football on several TV screens; a notable exception being a Liverpool supporter who was out of the door as soon as the final whistle went, pursued by some friendly jeers.
