Al Bundy left this review about The Market

A nice looking interior, though slightly modernised. Its a pleasant pub with 9 handpumps on the bar. All handpumps were on with one being a cider. The bar is L-shaped as noted. Its a nice enough place and is worth a half hour of your time.

Old Boots left this review about The Market

A double fronted Georgian building but deeply modernised inside into a single L shaped room, its got stone floors and exposed brick, lots of old photos and prints too, although to the rear is a dining area with intact plastered walls and sadly pretentious chandeliers. There are nine pulls with one for cider and other than the Greene King Abbott and the national kegs, the beer range was from Derbyshire, Notts and Yorkshire. I called in on market day so there were unpleasant foody smells and a rash of pensioners. The beer quality was good and so was the service the hipster barman and pretty barmaid dealing well with said pensioners. It may be nicer when quiet and I have a feeling it may be more lively at night. It's the start of the Chesterfield Ghost Trail - who'd have thought it?

ROB Camra left this review about The Market

Good looking pub situated right on Chesterfields market place as you might expect from the name. Once inside there's an L shaped bar and a bare floorboards, alehouse style interior. Pretty busy with lunchtime diners on our visit. 8 handpumps on the bar with a good selection of ales. My pint and Ms CAMRA's half were both in good nick. Rather expensive though for us Northerners at £3.80 per pint for mine and £3.60 for the other halfs. A must visit pub for the ale selection though.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Market

A good traditional pub, so can't be missed out. Eight ales on handpump, Friendly staff and regulars alike. I went for the Elgoods Cambridge Bitter

This is a pleasant ale house on Chesterfield's market square. The flagstone floor and half panelled walls with a mix of floral wallpaper and bare brick above, combine to create a fairly pleasing traditional feel, which is enhanced by the old photos of Chesterfield market and bits of brewerania which are displayed on the walls. There is a good range of mostly standard seating throughout the pub, although the section at the rear, beyond the bar counter, looked like it was more set up for formal dining. Meanwhile, the area at the front on the right hand side, which looked a bit more lounge-like to me, was packed full of young drinkers.
There were six ales on during my stay - Leeds Pale, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Greene King Abbot Ale, Crown Stannington Stout, Kelham Island Easy Rider (£3.05) and Black Sheep Bitter - a decent mix of popular mainstream beers and some less frequently seen micros. My pint of Easy Rider was the most expensive I had during my seven-pub crawl of Chesterfield and was in reasonable condition.
I thought this was a pretty decent town centre pub and undoubtedly a good alternative to the nearby Wetherspoons outlet. Certainly worth including on any visit to Chesterfield.
