Opened-out hotel bar thing with an elephant theme (see Babar cartoon strips varnished into the bar). Usually three ales (West Berks and Doom Bar). I've found the quality to be very hit and miss and service is appalling when you ask for a replacement – big loud strops trying to embarrass you into retreat. Shame. Clientèle a strange mix of posh-types and wide boys. Nice garden situated to the rear, next to the church.

Another hotel in affluent Pangbourne, but there is a public bar here. The elephant theme predominates, and the entrance through the hotel reception/lounge is full of elephant figures. The bar is called "The Barbar" and indeed the bar gantry has Barbar the Elephant episodes reproduced with pictures and text.
The bar is rectangular with service on the back wall. Wood floor, and a few small tables, the area opens out to a sofa and armchairs by the fire, the floor here has a large rug covering.
The big telly was showing the rugby, I'm sure this is the local game, a bit posh they seem here for football, especially as they have salsa night on Monday, Tuesday quiz, and wine appreciation Wednesdays.
Not my sort of pub, but easily the best ale selection I discovered in Pangbourne. West Berkshire Mr Chubbs Lunchtime Bitter, and WB Good Old Boy, plus Arkell's 3B.
