A swift walk up the road from The Three Horseshoes, and on the same side of the road is The Old Swan. Still largely as as described in previous reviews, although this doesn't appear to be a gastropub any longer. A fireplace stack sub-divides the interior into two, with the left-hand side of the building given over to dining, and the remainder to drinkers with a smaller sub-division between this remaining room. The bar is located at the rear and offered Timothy Taylor Landlord and 2 x Tring beers in Liberator and Ridgeway (£4.80 for the Ridgeway, and good). As it's set back from the road, there's a decent-sized car park plus outside seating area, both covered and uncovered. Probably a little too light and bright inside for our liking once the sun goes down outside, and the Farrow & Ball paint job makes it look a bit identikit interior-wise, but this does at least retain its Olde Worlde beams which remain exposed and unpainted, and you can't beat a pub with a thatched roof. Cheddington has two semi-good pubs in this and The Shoes.

This lovely, white-painted thatched building is now back in use as a pub, though the recent refurbishment included the light-olive paint on internal woodwork that tells you it's now a gastro-pub. Traditional furniture, largely set up for dining, now abounds. There's still a beer or two to be had, though, with XT4, Red Squirrel Conservation Bitter, Sharps Doom Bar and Youngs Bitter available at the time of my visit. I was just passing, and had a pleasant enough half of the XT. I can't imagine living in a village like this, but if I did I am sure I would pop in for a pint or two now and then.

Another Gastro pub that has failed in the current tough climate and was closed in January earlier this year.
The Landlord of the remaining village pub up the road, the Three Horseshoes, told me that some local business men were looking to purchase it and reopen. But at time of writing this fine period pub remains closed.

Very attractive exterior with a thatched roof and small front garden.The interior has been refurbished in a modern style with white washed walls,modern light fittings and new carpets which is pehaps not in keeping with the authentic exterior.This is an old building and the ceilings are low,some exposed timbers and there are three area,a large lounge by the entrance and two dining area,one in a seperate room to the left of the bar.Three handpumps dispence well kept Tribute and Adnams Bitter and a guest beer which was reversed on my trip.The focus of the pub is food ,which was well cooked by a chef,no microwave at work here.Slight premium pricing ,check out the website.Lacking a little authentic atmosphere,but a reliable place for a beer and a meal.
