E TA left this review about The Amesbury Archer
Built in the late 1990s, this utterly soulless Harvester is sited next to a petrol station in the middle of the Amesbury Servíces area, who role is to feed and fuel travellers on the A303. The one attempt at making it not a McPub is the reference to the eponymous iron age toxophilist whose body was found nearby, but the only real indication of this is inclusion of the name under a much larger Harvester sign on the road at the front where no-one ever looks. The single large bar has a wooden floor, a gaming machine and dire muzak. The staff were childish and rude, while the manager appeared apathetic. Even the pot plant looked depressed. There is also a large outside seating area which offers a prime view of the slip road. Despite its being September, there was a menu offering a Christmas menu, 'Festive Fayre', presumably an attempt to make the otherwise unappealing slop masquerading as food – well, more appealing. The only thing resembling ale was squirted from a tap labeled 'Speckled Hen', which was more foul than it was fowl. Whatever it was, it was freezing cold and tasted like disinfectant. I won't be shooting back here anytime soon.
