Up to four years ago the Madeira was run by Brewer’s Fayre until it was taken over by Harvester who still owns it. This is a very big pub in a prime location opposite the pier so there is plenty of passing trade. The bar area is located to the left of the entrance and the rest of the pub is set up for dining from the carvery and salad bar etc. There are no real ales here, but plenty of fizzy beers are up for grabs. There are some sofas in the bar area along with a fruit machine, quiz machine, cash machine and the all-important cuddly toy grab machine.

When service finally arrived it was polite and friendly, but I was the only person in the bar area even though the pub was busy. Like every other Harvester I’ve been in this place is best left for families who have dragged granny out for a special meal or families who need to feed their young after the 19:00 curfew.

My rating is based on going in for a pint and no food.
