Looks quite inviting from the outside and the inside retains a bit of unfussy charm, with a nice balance between being a local and catering for a tourist or 10. There’s a sideways horseshoe shaped bar with an attractive bar upper, whilst further on is a long spear room set for dining. To the rear area is a pool and darts section. Friendly barmaid, though I suspect that she was responsible for the rather awful music. Four ales on; 2x Otter, Sharps Doom Bar and Exeter Ferryman, the latter of which was pretty good (NBSS 3.5) though they could be a bit more adventurous on the styles available. Also a boxed cider from Sandfords. A solid place that is worth a stop. If you carry on up the road following the brook you can also do a bucolic old village wander.

Visited back in April and just realised I have not uploaded my photos or posted a review. Four hand pulls at the bar offering, at the time of my visit, Doom Bar, Adnams Broadside, Otter Ale and Seahorse by Salcombe. All English bitters so not much choice in terms of beer style, but I went for the Seahorse and it was nice enough.

The pub has a small and often well utilised seating area to the front. Inside the traditional dark wood bar is in front of you with a quieter area off to the left which I suspect is used primarily as the dining area during food service hours. In here is a pleasant old fireplace but otherwise unremarkable in terms of décor with white painted wallpaper on the walls and ceiling and cables trailing all over, reminiscent of a Working Men's Club. Nevertheless it is a pleasant old fashioned feeling pub with a good atmosphere and rotating real ale selection. The kind of place you can take your wife and kids.
