A food-heavy Greene King village pub, so slight corporate overtones but generally quite pleasant. Various original rooms have been knocked through, leaving odd bits of brickwork which breaks it up. Other walls are light or dark green and there are bines of hops and occasional brass ornaments giving a rustic air. It is mostly set out for dining now, although a couple of dartboards remain if you shift the tables and it does have regular live music. Old Speckled Hen and TT Landlord on handpump with other clips on the wall suggesting occasional guests. Food standard pub menu stuff.

The bay horse has the potential to be a brilliant country inn but a few things let it down. The decor in the pub is very tired and desperately needs a refresh. It is neither country pub cosy or trendy gastro pub, it is just naff. The lighting is too bright. Fluorescent strip lighting is unforgivable. The proximity of the kitchen to the bar means that the smell of chip fat is never far away. The bar staff are all very young and seem more interested in watching the TV than creating the welcoming country pub atmosphere. No wonder it is always so quiet in comparison to other pubs in the area. A real disappointment.
