Believed to go back to the 17th century, the frontage looks more Georgian/Victorian - in white render and with a porch. The interior has had its three rooms opened up into one L-shaped space, although it is clear where the rooms were. Dark grey in colour, with interesting fox and hart artwork, the place had more modern furniture. The pub had a dart board, silent TV showing the darts and no background music. The clientele was more mature with friendly service at the bar. The ales consisted of Hobsons Town Crier, Shropshire Oracle and a very good XXX Tuns Clerics Cure. Enjoyed the visit.

The clue’s in the name, this is a rather posh and refined hotel and restaurant which barely tolerates casual drinkers. Entry is into the hotel reception with a dining room to the right and up a few steps to the rear is an elegant lounge furnished with sofas and antique looking tables, there are 1930s style bar stools along the counter. The counter has a select few beers, Guinness, Warsteiner and two pulls with Woods Shropshire Lad and an own badged bitter also brewed by Woods at 3.8%. This is sold at a stonking £4 a pint. The décor includes some photos from the original 1887 Olympic Games that Wenlock is famous for. Charming and elegant but in no way a pub.
