A nice single roomed pub. Its a L-shaped room with 3 handpumps on the bar as you enter. A friendly set of locals made it a nice place to drink.

This is a proper pub, just outside the town centre on the very busy Saltergate. A couple of small areas to the left as you enter and the main room to the right. There are large TV screens that can be seen from just about anywhere in the pub, showing cricket on our visit. Wooden floors and some dark wood walls give this pub an alehouse feel. 3 Handpumps on the bar which were serving Black Sheep Bitter, Bradfield Belgian Blue and Old Rosie cider. The Belgian Blue is a strange purple colour, but still tastes fine. and was a well kept pint. It's a good pub, but the restricted ale choice would stop me calling for more than one. Be aware that this pub still closes 3 - 5 early in the week.

A former Wards pub, and still with the feel of a proper pub with its stained glass panels in the windows and a very attractive bar in dark stained wood, with a carved roundel in each square, and a brass foot rail. More importantly, three hand pumps, though these are at the far left of quite a long bar, almost as an afterthought.
The beers available at the time of my visit were Everards Tiger, Kelham Island Easy Rider and Black Sheep Bitter, which has its own shiny stainless steel fixture. I only had time for a swift half as the pub was closing for the mid-afternoon lull, but the Black Sheep was in good condition and the friendly barmaid didn't put undue pressure on me to drink up. Although I wouldn't go so far as to totally agree with the assessment below that this is the only "real" pub in the town centre, it's certainly one that I will make a point of visiting again.

A very well run pub with a comfortable and smart interior. The staff were friendly and my Everards Sunchaser was excellent. Also they had on Everards Tiger and Black Sheep. They serve food and a good few people were dining at lunch time.

Only real pub left in town centre. great ale fantastic food all cooked on site. Staff friendly and very good humoured. Been regulars for a couple of years can't fault it. Would not go anywhere else for a good night out.
