A bare boarded main room with a bit of a slant to the floor, the bar is along one side, there is a sort of screened off bit to a front corner which may once have been a snug or bottle shop. Up a step and through a short tiled corridor to the rear there is another room called The Latham Lounge. White painted circular iron columns, an elaborately decorated ceiling, an antelope head on a wall plus various Victorian drawings representing periods of apprenticeships. The lower walls are wood panelled, seating is reassuringly traditional.
The bar itself has a clearly more modern Palladian style back featuring numerous CAMRA awards in frames, there is also a bicycle over the main entrance lobby with some sort of charity notice and cheque attached.
Another Dale St pub with a good range on, Liverpool Organic Styrian plus their Pale Ale, Boggart Brewery Rum Porter, Rev James, Black Edge EPA, Dunscar Monroe plus a cider from Gwynnt y Ddraig.
Food served, pub grub, all mains were £4.95.
The place has a bit of an Irish feel, staff and the Guv were from the Island and Paddy's day stuff was up already. I liked it, it was friendly and the beer was good.

I found this a comfortable pub when I visited last Wednesday, with a good selection of ales from seven hand pulls. I paid £2.90 for a decent pint of Blakemere Jewel. I would have liked to stay longer had I not been on a mission to visit a fair few more pubs that night.

A strange place. Two room pub with (on my Saturday evening visit) a loud, dark and noisy room at the front (sloped floor) which was pretty empty with a smattering of weird old men hanging round the bar. Then a brighter lounge room beyond which was busier and mainly inhabited by the younger generation. In here were push bells and springy banquettes from the British Rail era, plus an out-of-place street scene mural with a Dead Kennedy's joke for those who like their music. A decent ale range but difficult to get to the bar, too many barflys. My Liverpool Organic El Dorado was in good shape, the Boggarts Rum Porter much less so (probably end of barrel, should have taken it back but didn’t fancy the hassle of getting to the bar again). Also Gwent y Ddraig cider available. Curate’s egg of a place, certainly not on a par with the premier outlets in Liverpool, too weird an atmosphere for me but perhaps during the week it’s better?

We've called in several times since our initial vist, the last time being on Wednesday. It's still a very relaxing pub in which to have a beer. I had a pint of Sandstone Onyx which was in very good nick. A must visit when on a Dale Street crawl.

Called in here for the first time on Sunday as I had been made aware it was now open again. Interesting decor and a sloping floor along with some old bits and pieces all around the place. The big screen was showing Utd vs City which seemed strange as Everton were also playing. We ate here, the food is basic but very good value for large portions. 2 steak baguettes with crisps & salad + one portion of chips (enormous) for £7.80. There are 6 handpumps with Brains Rev James being a permanent and the others are changing guests. I had a couple of pints of the Betwixt Sunlight as I'd had the other beers on the bar previously. It's a good pub, we'll definitely be calling again.

A basic two roomed street corner pub with a sloping floor.Good selection of ales.Down sides are a multitude of large TV screens showing football and a fairly run down feel to the decor.

This pleasant two room Dale Street pub reopened in 2009 after being closed for around five years and has been sympathetically refurbished, retaining a number of interesting features. The front room operates almost as two individual rooms, thanks to a partitioning wall that runs from the front door, creating a seating area screened from the bar. It’s a fairly basic space, with wooden floors and more room for standing than is given over to tables and chairs, with a couple of TV screens and a large map of the Mersey to distract the eye. A short corridor leads into a lovely art-deco rear room with a nice tiled floor and some attractive banquettes. The art deco look is enhanced by several large pictures, a period mirror and even the font used to write ‘Gents’ and ‘Ladies’ on the toilet doors is very much of its time. The rear room was made famous by former Liverpool deputy council leader Derek Hatton, who would hold unofficial meetings here before crossing to the nearby Municipal Buildings. In fact, he claims that “More decisions were taken there than were ever taken in the chamber.”
One of the pub’s biggest draws nowadays is the rotating ale selection which on our visit included Peerless Full Whack and Deep Dark Secret, Sandstone Post Mistress, Boggart Rum Porter and house beer Liverpool Organic Johnny Handsome. My pint of Sandstone was in great shape and I was a little loath to depart without trying any of the others.
This is another great little pub in the Dale Street area with an interesting past and a promising future and as such should be incorporated into any serious crawl around the city.

A traditional corner pub ,the bar counter was high enough down the slope to rest your forearm while drinking vertically which was a pleasant experience. There is a short corridor entrance and seating benches around the front window, while to the rear is the Latham Lounge with a sign hanging over the entrance "Everything in moderation, baby".I counted 7 handpumps and my Liverpool Organic Johnny Handsome was in good nick. This was a brief visit, but I would like to return and spend a little longer to sample more of the wide range of well kept ales in this authentic boozer.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Vernon Arms

Decent two-bar pub with a traditional feel. Limited seating and fairly basic decor. Seven handpumps in total, with several interesting beers including the Boggart Rum Porter (£1.40, half). Only had time for a flying visit, but will return...

A good pub this one, the barman on our visit defo knows how to sort out the wheat from the chav. As a small group of people decided to waltz in and were a bit worse for wear. There was no confrontation as the the barman just came out from behind the bar and showed them the door. Respectable drinkers at this estab only, well done. Anyway 6 ales on, I enjoyed the Slaters Queen Bee, Phoenix Arizona dry as a desert and L,pool Organic Johnny Handsome. Will call again.
