Strongers . left this review about Vernon Arms

The Vernon Arms is a long and thin bare board floored pub with a small raised seating area to the left that is screened from the entrance up the right. The long serving counter runs up the left-hand wall where it faces banquettes up the right-hand wall. In the rear on the way to the toilets is a room with more banquettes, which I imagine comes into its own when the pub is busy because there’s a lot of standing room in the bar area. The seven hand pumps were drawing three real ciders alongside Brimstage Brewery’s Oyster Catcher, Ossett’s White Rat, Off Piste and a decent Brains Rev James. Premium keg and Carling were also available from the polite barman. This is a decent pub so I was surprised to be one of only three people in attendance listening to the background music on a recent Monday evening when lesser pubs in the area were busier.

A long roomed traditional corner pub with a locals feel to it, seven handpumps offered up six cask beers and one Cider, beers were Coach House Gunpowder, Kirkstall Dissolution IPA, Salopian Oracle, Brains The Rev James, Ossett White Rat and Black Edge Citra , my choice, the Cider was Gwynt Y Ddraig Black Dragon. A nice beer selection and top pub.

Really good corner pub with six cask beers plus three ciders. Front room extends a long way back, leading to the toilets and the Latham Lounge, while a small area at the very front is half-screened from the bar area. I went for the local and popular Brimstage Trappers Hat, which was in very good condition (NBSS 4), though I would prefer it if it was actually bitter rather than just called a bitter. The sound system was playing some of my least favourite songs, like Mr Blue Sky, Starman and Bat Out of Hell. Those reading this review and who like these tracks - and bear in mind that I know who you are - will no doubt be flocking to this pub asap.

GBG 2023 entry. Last review sums it up - slightly shabby un-chic.

Busy on a sat afternoon and I'll put this down to the prices. A perfect Ossett White Rat had to be complimented by 2 packets of dry roasted to meet the £5 min card spend.

The Vernon Arms still remains a worthwhile stopping point on any Dale Street crawl. From the corner entrance, the front room slopes upwards towards a larger and more comfortable room at the rear.

The real ale range is always fairly reliable. Brain's The Rev James is a regular beer. Guests were Coach House Christmas Pudding, Wychwood Bah Humbug, Ossett White Rat & Brimstage Oyster Catcher. The real cider is Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon.

Still a Good Beer Guide regular and deservedly so.

Really enjoyed our visit to this 2019 Good Beer Guide pub. Our chosen beers were Big Bog Balmy Bog and Stamps Rum Porter, both of which were fine.

still a great old real ale boozer on Dale Street and one of Liverpool's many gems. the food was absurdly cheap until recently but has understandably been bumped up a couple of pounds.

I wasn't expecting much before I opened the door into this tatty looking boozer, but was very pleasantly surprised to see seven handpumps, all clipped. I went for a rum porter called Gitone Zarack’s (if I’ve read my notes correctly, which doesn’t always happen) from Stamp’s Brewery, at £1.60 a half.

A fairly ordinary and unpretentious bar faces you, and a bit of screening on the left suggests that there was once a snug in that corner. Furnishings are the traditional upholstered bench seating and normal tables and chairs. A shelf on the bar back sported a range of CAMRA awards; always a good sign. A doorway at the back on the left leads through an erstwhile entranceway to an area called the Latham Lounge, which is a bit more sumptuously furnished than the main bar.

This is the sort of down to earth locals’ boozer that I like. Seven real ales helps enormously as well.

One of many good pubs in the city centre. Though its a bit tatty it does usually have a decent selection of real ale. As described by Mr Man below it is probably more comfortable in the back room. The mural with the Dead Kennedys joke is still here and a holiday in Cambodia for £49 would obviously be a bargain nowadays.
