Old pub with modernised split level interior. 1 real ale tap not on during my visit.

The Volunteer has now reopened. It looks quite old fashioned from outside, but indoors is very modern, presumably having been extensively refurbished following the fire in April which resulted in its closure. The basic structure remains as described in the previous review, with the bar at street level and a small lounge on a slightly lower level at the back.
