aleand hearty left this review about Bar Street
A fairly recent addition to the Wakefield drinking scene, Bar Street is a smallish one-roomed bar primarily aimed at the younger ‘Westgate Run’ crowd.
Decor is very much the modern take on a watering hole: Exposed brick, laminated flooring, leather sofas and high tables and stools.
There were three hand pumps at the bar, but only London Pride was available. However, I believe that normally Ossett ‘Silver King’ is the regular beer, along side a guest. The Pride was rather ho-hum in quality and a little cold, but very reasonably priced at £1.95 a pint. I suspect that the T-bar font beers and cocktails are the real favourites here.
The barmaid that served me was friendly and polite.
Regarding the atmosphere, it’s very difficult to comment as I was the only person in the place at 6.30 besides the manager and barmaid. (Plus Madge strutting her stuff on several flat-screen monitors!) Another couple of hours would have made a big difference I’m sure.
In short it’s a not unpleasant, fairly generic modern bar, maybe lacking a USP. However, I’d be the first to admit I’d probably look at it very differently if I was twenty-five years younger.
