Nice pub with friendly staff. Two rooms with decent real ale - Titanic Plum Porter was on offer. Also a nice fire in the grate.

The five hand pumps had three real ales on when I was here recently: Jennings Cumberland, Marstons Pedigree and Wells Bombardier - the usual suspects really. I was driving and had just had a permitted half in the previous pub, so it was ginger beer here for me.
The public bar to the right has a tiled floor and is long and fairly narrow. This is an old building with low ceilings, and there are pictures on the wall which show how its appearance has changed over the years: windows coming and going according to the rules on taxation or the whim of the owner. The other room to the left is slightly more upmarket and is of broader proportions.

This is a decent looking pub in the middle of Hartington.
We went in the room at the front of the pub the was fairly long and narrow with most of the seats faceing the bar,i had a drink of Jennings Cumberland which was decent enough the other beer was Pedigree so i thought this might be a Marstons house.

Located in the main square of a pretty village. Two rooms both functionally furnished. Frequented by walkers as well as usual daytrippers. The last time I was there (spring 2008) the choice of beers had been reduced to the usual national brews & although some excellent local brews are available in the area alas none were in this place. Over the years I've visited the portions of food have got smaller - the Ploughmans is only an image of what it used to be. From being a very good pub it has, alas, become disappointing - this may be due to the lack of competition in the village.
