Ludlow is a historic market town, attracting tourists from all over to visit the fantastic castle ruin, take in the many half-timbered buildings and historic pubs, even if – truth be told – they aren’t really very good.
Situated across from a Saxon burial barrow (ok, the A49 roundabout), this is an altogether different beast, dating from 2006, part of the area’s overall recent development. Visitors can drink in the historic surrounding attractions, including Dominos, Co-Op, World of Pets, Howdens, Valero and Tool Station, the pub no doubt serving the neighbouring Travelodge; a short drive further north affords a breathtaking view of Sainsbury’s and Costa drive-through.
The interior is typical of a modern Marston’s – or similar – pub: a floor of either pale herringbone or carpet, walls of floral wallpaper or taupe paint with exposed brick, then at least one games’ machine; customers were young and in good cheer at the time of my Wednesday evening brief visit.
Cask amounted to Hobgoblin Gold or Pedigree, £2.25 a half, far too cold and slightly on the turn, served by an efficient barman.
Obviously this isn't a place to make a special visit, but if I were staying in the Travelodge, I’d make the effort to cover the roughly one mile walk into the town centre rather than spending time here watching the chickens coming home to roast.

New build Marstons pub diner next to a Travelodge. Big carpark reasonable wheelchair access.
Couple of ales on tap, usualy Banks bitter,Pedigree and a Wytchbold brew.
Good food , the chicken is spitroast. If you really have nothing else to do you can watch them cook in a glass case. The best thing however is get yourself a taxi and discover the great pubs of Ludlow.
