The old building has a degree of historic interest and is a replica of the original Georgian Custom House which burnt down in 1813. However, the current décor has almost become a parody – elegant fittings sprayed a tacky gold, cheap and nasty furniture in the grand setting, and a silly staff uniform, black shirts with Heineken logos on all make it feel like a cheap 1970s night club. The staff were friendly and welcoming, however, and the barman seemed to know what he was doing with his beer. The one ale on was London Pride which was well kept and quite enjoyable. Although it's a bit pretentious, it's a nice little bolt hole if you can come at a time when it's not overrun with tourists or hen parties.

Having seen a couple of people drinking on the outside terrace I had a peek inside, although this is a historic quayside building once serving as the current name indicates, the interior is stripped out and modern. Nearly all tables set for eating, no one inside and on receiving a "can I help you?" that suggested a bloke in shorts wandering about is not exactly what they were looking for I retreated after noticing a solitary handpump serving a Palmers beer. I do however reckon you can get just a pint here if you really want to.
