Tarted-up significantly since my last visit. Knocked-through now with three areas and an ill-advised dark blue interior paint job given its position away from the afternoon sunlight. A little of its earthier roots remain, with a pool table in a rear right room and snooker on the telly. Just Brakspear Gravity on but it was a nice fresh pint (NBSS 3.5).

A little forbidding from the outside and I have to admit to not expecting much when I went in. But to my pleasant surprise was greeted by a friendly barlady along with a very good pint of Hooky Dark (which is usually awful; Brakspear was the other ale). The pub's interior was pretty spartan, however there was a dartboard I was positively encouraged to use. The toilets were a bit poor and could do with some work. Perhaps worth the extra two minutes up the hill from the Bird on this showing, for a couple of games of arrows. Rated 6

Locals' pub up hill out of town, knocked through into one room with a games area behind the bar. Car park and decked garden hidden round the back. A couple of Brakspears Ales on pump. Pleasant enough if passing but not worth the walk uphill unless doing the Brakspear Trail. Also note doesn't open weekday lunchtimes.

Nice little black and white timbered locals pub just far enough away from the centre to disuade the tourists. Looks like it's had a refurbishment recently but done quite sympathetically. We both had the Brakspears Mild which was so good that we had to have a second. This was the cheapest pint we had all night. The steps down into the gents immediately behind the door come as a bit of a surprise to the unwary. I think a warning sign may be in order. A very good solid pub and one to consider when on a crawl of Henley.
