A basic town pub with no frills. It sits on a corner and has an outside seating area. It shares a car park with The Duke of York next door, which includes overnight lorry parking. The bars are almost conjoined but remain separate in feeling. There is a large open fire and a selection of tables. The food menu is extensive and inexpensive, by no means haute cuisine, but plain, freshly prepared nutrition, of the standard you’d expect from a traditional school dinner. One ale on, Doombar, very fresh and served at a reasonable temperature. There was also a real cider on draft. The landlord was welcoming, but it still felt like a bit of an old man’s local. Not a destination of choice, but worth stopping if you happen to be passing and looking for a cheap meal.
