An imposing stone building with three floors, that must have operated as a hotel at some time, though it doesn't appear to offer accommodation now. The interior has been somewhat opened out but still retains a flavour of the original layout and feel. The bar has three hand pumps, with two reversed pump clips, and at first I assumed there was no real ale, but the young man who is managing the pub explained that he's had a delivery that morning and the only beer on was without a pump clip. We had quite a discussion, because he was saying that the real ale is popular but his delivery was arriving too late in the week to keep the bar replenished and he wanted to get them to deliver on Tuesdays. I suggested that he might do better to order extra, with the aim of getting at least a week ahead. The beer that I had (we couldn't find the brewery that he named online, so he may have misunderstood or it was misspelt on the invoice, but it may have been Wold Top Farm) was blonde and initially seemed in good condition, but when another customer came in and had a pint, I then asked for another half and it now seemed to be a little bit off, so perhaps was near the bottom of the barrel. A pity, because I quite liked it here - it's a proper village local, unlike the Black Boy, which I couldn't warm to. The pub has a quiz fortnightly, comedy nights, discos, sports on TV and pool and darts teams being set up; it also functions as a base for Lauren's Legacy, a charity in memory of a local nurse who died of cancer, and the League of Zeal motorbike club with which she was associated.

The Eagle Tavern is a decent looking three storey stone built pub that is on the east side of Heage.
Once inside the pub was fairly busy and there was sky sports on the tv,there was only one real ale on here which was London Pride this was a fairly decent drink.
