A fine looking building which actually pre dates the Leeds & Liverpool Canal which runs outside. It was also a stopping place for fast moving packet boat services for passengers on their way to Liverpool by boat, hence the name.Little of the history remains internally,it has been opened out but still retains several sections. To the front right, there is a raised area with a flatscreen,in the main body there is a long banquette in red velour, while a mid building snug has a series of sofas with a rear section overlooking the canal has more conventional seating.
As has been mentioned the ale selection comes from Bank Top with three of the four pumps offering Flat Cap,Bad to the Bone and a very decent Pavilion Pale, although all three were of a similar ale style.
The food is well cooked and reasonably priced pub grub and the guv'nor was both friendly and attentive. Both Sky and BT Sport are on the screens, and with live music on Saturdays this pub serves a gap in the local market.Along with the Hop Vine, this place is worth a visit if you like decent real ale.

The pub may now be owned, or at least leased by the Bank Top brewery as the ales were all from there today. And they were very reasonable at £2.50 a pint. It’s a nice enough place inside if ever so slightly lacking in atmosphere and with a fairly grumpy barman. it may be a little better when busier but the real draw here is the lovely canal side location. I spent a very peaceful half hour here watching canal cruisers passing by with some decent 70s music playing outside. very much a summer pub.

Large pub which has been refurbished throughout in greys and pastels, leaving a very spacious feel but not much character. Sadly the traditional gaming areas have disappeared in a move up-market, but there is a nice indoor terrace and outdoor garden both overlooking the canal. Pleasant enough and will hopefully improve when it weathers in a bit. Ales at time of visit were from Prospect and Coach House.

Large pub with several distinct areas. Two of the areas have a pool table and a third has a dartboard. Nothing outstanding in the way of decor, but it's nicely maintained. 4 handpumps on the bar with 2 on serving Corby Blonde & Corby Ale, the Blonde was a decent enough pint. I called on a Tuesday afternoon when there weren't many in the pub as you'd expect. The few that were in and stood around the bar were very sweary though. It's a decent pub without being anything special.
