Like the Peacock, I found this pub to be food oriented and uncomfortable, with a fake fireplace to boot. The tables, set up for dining, are set too close together and I can't imagine settling down for a few beers in a place like this. The front entrance gives a choice of the tap room down two steps to the right or the larger room (or rooms - I didn't explore too much) to the left. From what I could see there was not much to distinguish, with furnishings being pretty standard for pubs like this that rely on the tourist trade. I had the Peak Bakewell Best Bitter, which was in good condition; unfortunately I didn't make a note of the other beers as I was in a hurry to do the last pub before my bus back to Sheffield; there was at least one other Peak beer on. Not anywhere near the best pub in Bakewell in my opinion, but I would choose this one over the Peacock in a reverse order of merit, but only because it seems less pretentious.

The Red Lion is still a proper pub with two rooms and a dining area,we first went in the room to the right which is more like a bar but it was well furnished and comfortable there were three real ales on the bar we tried Peak Ales Chatsworth gold which was a very nice drink there was also Derby Pennys Porter and Black Sheep on the bar.
The second time we came in this pub we went in the left room which is more of a lounge and this was a decent room to have a few drinks in the dining room is up a few steps from the lounge.
Lots of people were dining in different parts of the pub and the service seemed to be very quick,i think this is probably the best pub in Bakewell.

Went in this pub again 1 October 2011.
This pub is still just as good as the last time we visited it.
we had a drink in the bar and there were two real ales on, we had a drink of Peak Ales Chatsworth Gold and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Peak Ales Swift Nick, there were three pumps in the other room but i did'nt have a look to see what was on them.
This pub is well worth a visit.

16th century coaching inn, a stones throw from the famous Bakewell tart shop. A very handsome pub from the outside that invited me in. Very trad inside, with good decor, enjoyed some very well kept Peak Ales which helped wash down one of those famous tarts.
