A nice little traditional local with low ceilings and beams, old furnishings and assorted bric-a-brac with a vaguely nautical theme. Shame about the damned fairy lights but at least it feels like a proper pub. Cask ales were a wonderfully retro Courage Best (which I would have drunk here 45 years ago, although lord knows where it comes from now), Abbot and a surprising Exeter Avocet. Good pub with a friendly landlady who is doing her best to keep it going.

This struck me as a friendly, old fashioned local on my Sunday evening visit. From the four hand pumps the Tongham TEA wasn’t available and I paid £3.55 for a decent pint of Pride in preference to Courage Best or Abbot. Not the most interesting selection as has been said before, but I thought it was an interesting pub, liked its atmosphere, and wouId happily come back again if I was in the area.
