Peter Forster left this review about Kings Head
This is a traditional hotel situated at the top of a very Yorkshire hillside market town. A public pay and display carpark is just behind the hotel but there is ample free on street parking in Kirkbymoorside if required. The pub sign displayed a Jennings brewery affiliation. Inside the ‘Duke’s Bar’ was to the right of the entrance lobby. This was divided into an area set out for eating which you walk through to get to the fairly small stone walled public bar itself. The corner serving bar was wood panelled with a bit of age and patina. The general condition of the place was clean and tidy, maybe a little sparse. There was a slightly out of character guitar theme with two on the wall and another propping the bar up. The place was filled with a mixture of locals and travelling workers. It didn’t take many to fill it but I managed to bag the last free seat. The three beers on hand pump were Marston’s Pedigree, Tetley’s and Jenning’s Cumberland. I had a half of the Jennings (£2.35) which was surprisingly good (NBSS 3.5). The bar staff were efficient, welcoming and chatty. Whilst I was there the workmen were served with chips and doorstep slices of bread whilst sitting at the bar. It looked like good drinking fare. I wouldn’t make the trip specifically to come here but if in town and in need of a pint I would happily revisit.
