Visit October 2014

Things haven't changed that much here. the prices are now £2.30 for the Hancock's HB and £2.65 for other ales which means the prices have risen by 5p a pint each year, less than the Robinson's pub down the road where the Unicorn has risen by 25p a pint in two years.

On the beer front the Hancock's HB seems to now be a permanent fixture and the other two beers were Great Orme Orme and Celtica. The Great Orme beers and in particular the Celtica are popular with locals and visitors so they are likely to be permanent fixtures until the 2015 holiday season kicks off.

It's a better place for a drink than the Robinson's pub down the road but the TV screens can be annoying.

Visit Oct 2012

It's good to see that the prices have been kept down despite the appalling duty rises by this and previous governments. The "cooking" is now £2.15 and the guests are £2.55. Understandably during the off-peak season they don't use all the other pumps. The "cooking" was Hancock's HB and there were just two others, the ubiquitous Doom Bar and Skinner's Cornish Knocker which I stuck to.

The food I tried this time was exceptional. It was a smoked haddock florentine, consisting of a fillet of smoked haddock in a creamy cheesy sauce with spinach and accompanied by a good helping of peas and new potatoes plus three other veg (carrots, green beans and fried leeks). If any of this was not freshly cooked then the kitchen staff are very handy with a microwave.

I had to Google the meal to confirm exectly what it was and was rather amused to see that it is a Delia Smith recipe. I'm sure she would be flattered.

The staff and owners are very friendly so I have upped my score to 9.

Visit Autumn 2011

I made a couple of visits to this pub last November. It's a small modern looking slate floored bar with four handpumps, three selling "interesting" ales at about 4.0-4.5% ABV at a reasonable £2.50 a pint. All three were in good condition with the pipes obviously being kept clean.

The fourth pump had a less interesting "cooking" bitter on at about two quid (I think it was Hancocks HB).

Although the nearby Victoria is a much more attractive pub, on this occasion in early November on beer quality alone this place is the one to go for in Llanbedr, as suggested by the GBG.

For those interested, I would say the food in both is fairly similar in price and quality, both doing decent pub grub.

A nice little pub, good food & 4 real ales on in July 2013. In the good weather the dining spills out onto the patio & lawn. Decent real ales - Hancocks HB still the cheapie, with Doom Bar & a couple of more interesting ones on (Cottage Boundary & Hook Norton Lion during our visits)

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Ty Mawr Hotel

Small hotel with a busy public bar and decent-sized beer garden. Four handpumps with a selection of interesting real ales (e.g. Conwy Honey Fayre/Cwrw Mel at £2.50) plus Greene King IPA.
