My first stop on a planned crawl of North East Wales pubs was the Swan in Pontfadog. It's Good Beer Guide listed but was closed on my Thursday lunchtime visit. There was nothing on their website or social media accounts to suggest they were closed, just a paper notice on the door that suggested that they would be closed until October 14th with the 14th closed out and with what could have been a very smeared 19th underneath. My visit was on October 16th. Given it wasn't clear if the pub just hadn't opened for the day, whether it was closed temporarily or whether it was closed for good, I did try calling a number of times, only to constantly get an answer phone message. Again, no indication on the message as to whether the closure was temporary or permanent.

I'll probably give this pub another try at some point in the future. But it's probably best to call ahead given the uncertainty over opening times.
