A roadside pub which suffers from being on a busy main route. There is a small car park at the side which can be difficult at busy times. Inside, the front and rear bars have been conjoined, the rear becoming a public bar and games area with a huge TV screen, pool and darts, while the front is more of a lounge area. There is a single long bar counter in the centre with a couple of high tables nearby. Apart from a selection of teas and coffees there was what appeared to be a basic pub menu. Ales on were Butcombe Bitter and Doombar, the former in very good condition. Despite its roadside location there was a real village local feel to this pub. The cheerful barmaid was welcoming and made us feel at home, while the locals were happy to chat. Small children and large dogs played freely together, and the atmosphere was convivial. Given that it’s on a route I use quite often I’ll probably drop in again from time to time for a pitstop.
