A bit of a surprise, this one: a GBG pub in a totally obscure location, a former Hartley's pub before Robinson's bought the brewery and then seemingly gave up on the pub. Now in the free trade, with a modern lounge decor and music to match, it has established a good reputation for food and beer. I didn't eat, and I'm no interior decorator, but I know expensive tat when I see it. I tried a half of each of the three cask beers on the bar (see photo). Too cold, was the initial impression, but having given a reasonable time for them to approach a decent temperature and compared them with my memories of recent examples of the same beers in other pubs, I struggle to understand how this pub made it to the Guide. These are three beers that I have enjoyed recently, but here they were all bland - cold and bland. It pains me to write this as I walked two miles to get here and I have to retrace my steps to my campsite for the night.
