The iconic Art Deco hotel that along with Eric, is most people’s first mental image of Morecambe – amazing that there were plans to pull it down a few years ago. As you can imagine, it’s a huge place inside. There are two bars, with one ale pump in the main bar by reception (look upwards for an impressive architectural view) almost lost in the vast counter, dispensing Wild Boar Blonde Boar - 4 quid a pop but in surprisingly decent shape. The rear bar is a modern cocktail affair but with a lovely Art Deco curved windowed wall facing out to the bay. There’s also a lovely outside rear area affording the same view – and have a go on the jumbo deckchair! Impressively busy for a summer’s Sunday afternoon. I was genuinely surprised by this place and I’d heartily recommend sampling it on a summer’s day for the experience of the views and architecture.
