Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Stockyard

This is a very unusual place. It's a pub located in the corner of a rather large truckstop just off the M18 motorway near Hellaby.

It's one of those places where you will find conflicting opening times on various sources online. Their website doesn't show any opening times. For a Sunday, WhatPub said 12-10, Google says 7am-8pm, their Facebook page says 7-10:30 & 12-11 and TripAdvisor says 7am-11pm. So we arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon to find it closed! Luckily, there was actually a sign on the door and I can confirm that all sources were incorrect and that the Stockyard opens from 4-10 on a Sunday.

We returned later in the evening to find it open. We'd toyed with the idea of trying their carvery but by the time we got back here, they seemed to be clearing up. You enter the premises into a seating area with the carvery off to the left and the bar itself off to the right.

I'm guessing the clientele were mainly truck drivers staying the night in their cabs. They had showers available for drivers. The bar has a beamed ceiling and it is quite dark inside. Flooring is a mixture of tiles and bare boards. Various features include a Wurlitzer, musical instruments on the ceiling and a piano in one corner with an accordion on top. A TV was showing Wimbledon on mute, with music playing instead.

Cask ale has been discontinued here. The keg choice was John Smith's, Samuel Smith's Sovereign Bitter & Taddy Lager, Fosters, Stella Artois, Carling, Strongbow Dark Fruits, Guinness & Moretti.

Quite a nice pub in a very unusual location. The lack of cask ale is a disadvantage. Perhaps truck drivers don't like it?
