Half-hearted Stonegate attempt at a Wetherspoons with a rather dowdy feel, a bit dark due to the low ceiling and several defective light fittings. The main room holding the bar is broken up by a couple of large pillars, with some half booths down one side, pool, darts and Sports TVs. To the rear is a nicer room labelled as family area but dogs are not permitted, so don't bring both. There is also a further room behind with its own bar available for hire as a 'party room'. Sadly the only draught ales available were Doom Bar and IPA, although Box Piston Broke and Goff's Fallen Knight were promised as coming soon, so I might have just been unlucky. The place has potential but needs a bit of tlc.

I like this pub, it is like a Wetherspoons without the families with prams. Okay, so the prices are higher, but it is comfortable, has smart decor and the staff are friendly. I always visit when I am in the area. 4 real ales on tap and at a good price. Only problem is, I can't justify the price of a train ticket from London to Chippenham every time I want a drink
