A comfortable and surprisingly roomy street corner local. The door, on the Haines Road side of the building, leads to a choice of two internal doors, but they both debouch into what is now the same room. The bar is immediately reached but the rest of the pub continues to left and right and round some corners, including a room which has a Northants skittles table.

On the substantial stained-wood bar there are three hand pumps, one offering Gun Dog Bad to the Bone, a nice best bitter with a bit of maltiness to it, plus Sharps Doom Bar and a hand-drawn pump clip that said merely Hard Core 6.5% - I don't know if this was another beer or perhaps a cider.The furnishings were mostly old fashioned leather-covered bench seating and arm chairs, the sounds were R&B at a decent volume, and the beer was just fine.
