Will Larter left this review about The Earl of St Vincent
This is a pleasant, fairly small, village pub in the narrow and twisty back streets near the delightful church, and largely dependent on the food trade from tourists, by the looks of things. Named after a British admiral from the Napoleonic wars, who was called John Jervis but took his name when elevated to the peerage from his famous victory at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent (14 February 1797), off the coast of Portugal. The fact that more of my review is about the eponymous hero than about the pub is that this was my seventh pub of a day that started at 11:30 at the Blisland Inn, and I hadn't taken any notes here after failing in my struggle to connect to wifi.
I arrived here shortly before 6pm when it was relatively quiet and also - welcomingly - fairly cool inside after a warm, sunny day. My half of St Austell Tribute was in very good condition (NBSS 3.5), which is just as well as it was the only cask beer on the bar, despite the presence of two other hand pumps; this on a Saturday in summer in a tourist town in Cornwall. Most customers seemed to be asking for Madri or Cruzcampo, god help us.
