A contemporary looking pub located at the far end of Rock just before you get to the beach, the pub is located upstairs above a retail unit and has a good-sized balcony with glass sides to make the most of the fantastic views across the estuary to Padstow.
Internally it’s not really very pub like at all, feeling much more like a café, which is in some ways what it is of course with an all-day food offering. There was some sort of light wood strip on the floors, whilst the walls and ceiling were plain whitewashed plasterwork with suspended blue panels on the ceiling and some colourful artwork on the walls to add a splash of colour. The seating added more colour with most of the chairs being a rather vibrant shade of lime green whilst the large, full height windows let in plenty of daylight. Other than that, there was really very little of any note, unless you count a few model seagulls suspended from the ceiling above the bar, which I thought was an odd choice seeing what a pest they are.
Beers on tap were St. Austell’s Anthem and Tribute, whilst the ciders were Cornish Rattler and Somersby Blackberry. Overall, it’s light, airy, modern and contemporary and offers great views, so there’s nothing at all wrong with it, it just didn’t feel very pub like.
