Brickhouse Social doesn’t look like the most inviting of places from outside, I’d compare it to an abandoned office block. Some stairs lead up to an inviting looking second floor bar, but this was closed during a recent Monday early evening visit, so I had to make an unexpected turn to the left past a shuffleboard table and seating to a serving counter that runs across the rear on the first floor. Carling and premium keg were available from the polite barman. The décor is functional and screams student bar, but I did like the back bar enough to mention it in my notes, no idea why though! There were a handful of young people in, most of whom were playing pool, I counted four tables up the right. A student bar for student people.

Black Dog Ballroom is the overall name of the chain which includes Dog Bowl & XOLO. This one is actually called Black Dog NWS despite the signage and is at the same address as XOLO which is a Mexican themed tequila bar. Very full on my Friday evening visit. I had a bit of a look around, but as there was no real ale available I decided to leave it as it was towards the end of a long day. The weblinks are not duplicated, one points to Black Dog NWS and the other to XOLO.

The space Café bar is now The Black Dog Ballroom which is a 3 floor New York speakeasy with a diner,pool room and roof terrace.Underneath there is a nightclub called Underdog.
