A new GBG Tick (2025) to be had in Edinburgh. We entered, still with the flight sticker on our case handle :-)

A single room, storied building that looked like it could have been a garage to one of the larger buildings along rose street.

Friendly welcome and a bit of a chat with the landlord about a Tuesday Night Quiz. Appears that last weeks winners set the theme of this weeks quiz.

Anyway - back to the beer - a couple of cask on. Loch Lomond The Gloaming chosen and it had just been changed. By the way several staff checked the beer for cloudiness before serving, you can tell they care for their beer.

The Black Cat is the 1st pub you meet on the 4th section of Rose Street. The Amber Rose is on Castle Street to Rose Street corner does not count as a Rose Steet pub. As does Milnes Bar whose address is Hanover Street, with the main frontage on Rose Street. Situated in a one storey, one roomed building. The pub has live bands on at various times. If their sign is up to date the live Scottish music is on Mon, Wed & Thurs 9:30pm to 12:30am & Sun 4pm to 7pm. But as luck would have it, there was live music on Mon at 3pm. The ales on the pumps were from Seventy One Cloud Fall which is golden in colour & has a fresh take on an American Pale Ale. Plus, Stewart Brewing Lie N’ Kickin’, a hoppy pale ale. On tap were Leith Juice, an IPA, Pilot, a Vienna pale ale & Tempest Long White Cloud a pale ale from New Zealand. There is large gantry with over 140 whisky malt & blends.

I took agin this place when I walked in as the solitary barmaid had to finish a long chat with a couple of friends before they got round to ordering and eventually she served me, pleasant but a bit late. Then I got beer in a throw back handled glass, slightly short measured too. No complaints about the beer quality however, it may well deserve its GBG entry on this showing. A single dark room with a mix of seating options but not built for comfort. Wood and tile treatment to the walls. Two pulls with Scots beers plus a range of interesting and not so interesting kegs, extensive whisky range.

A modern place with distressed retro feel - full length grubbed wood panelling, random mix of chairs etc. The large mirrored rear wall gives clever impression of the bar being a much larger room than it is. Two ales on, Fyne Jarl and one from Williams Bros which was in pretty good shape, better than I had expected it to be. Also quite a large selection of bottled beers with a menu and tasting notes available, plus a number of craft keg pumps. A ‘January Sale’ advertised prominently and my half was a mere £1.50. Gigantic whisky selection, on par with Edinburgh’s finest.Regular live music advertised. Not bad as a random stop and was certainly a better bet than the more renowned Teuchtars that weekend.

Small bar with 2 real ales and a selection of "craft" beers/lagers. Food served.

This pubs now changed its name to Citizen Smiths, it still has the same range of great live music, we saw a great 3 piece over Easter, another small pub that gets busy quickly.
