Another one I re-did under the sufferance of new ownership, this time Windsor & Eton, a brewery a highly respect. The interior didn’t strike me as having changed much since its Fire Station days. One solitary handpump serving W&E Windsor Knot. The barman’s attempts to get beer out were farcical, with the pipe hacking and spluttering like and old man – “it’s usually like this”, he said. Inevitably the beer that came out was flat muck, so I took it back and it to be fair it was exchanged for the far more expensive keg White Riot without fuss or charge and the clip turned, though more with a shrug than a attitude of ‘poor show, sorry’. Unimpressive – I wouldn’t bother again unless there’s a boot up the arse here.

Converted fire station with a small single room bar and an outside decked area at the front. Younger, modern vibe and quite busy though the youngness extended to a bunch of kids frequenting the place who appeared to be using the auditorium, which made for an incongruous mix of mums, 9 year olds and hipsters. All keg, though bottled Pride and Chimay Red (£4.20) in the fridge. Useless barmaid took a call halfway through order without as much as a by-your-leave. Unimpressed. Rated 5
