Tombstone Brewery & Saloon Bar has a wild west theme throughout, but it’s not over the top so it doesn’t feel like one is sat in a theme park bar. It’s a small single room brewpub with a strip wood floor at the front upon which sits some seating and a laminate floored rear where a serving counter is found on the rear wall in front of gravity fed barrels along the back bar. I went for a pint of Milestone Brewery’s Comet Golden Ale which I thought had gone, but the very friendly governor and local at the counter said that it was ok, but an acquired taste as it has a honey flavour. I’d previously been drinking mostly lager so I took their word for it, and I didn’t shit the bed that night so it must have been fine, I just didn’t like it, but to be fair the governor did offer to swap it for something else, however my personal tastes shouldn’t be eating into someone’s profits. Whilst nursing my pint I noted some exposed brick and wood panelled walls and a dartboard on the left-hand wall. The television was airing muted BBC News and a radio station with adverts was playing in the background. Some purists won’t like it in here, but I found it to be the most welcoming venue of the day and I’d certainly pop back for a visit when next in the area.

At the Tombstone Saloon, the beer is mostly served on gravity from behind the bar, though some have to be fetched from somewhere beyond the counter. Obviously jacketed casks on a warm afternoon is far from ideal for ale quality and today's beers are fresh, but somewhat insipid.

Signs of refurbishment are all around, with freshly varnished tables and new paint outside. That though is the highlight. A bit of a disappointment and I'd probably walk past on a repeat visit to Great Yarmouth.

Our cunning plan of a quiet Sunday evening pint in the Mariners Arms was thwarted when they had a beat the bands evening on with five local bands and the pub was packed with friends and family of the bands. So we made a tactical retreat after one pint and searched out the Tombstone Brewery Tap room as we had regularly run out of time to do it on previous visits.
Small, western themed one room micro pub set up with bench seating to the front and the serving area set at the back with a counter in front of several barrels in cooling jackets on stillage behind.
Two chalk boards, one on a left-hand pillar detailing the ciders available (presumably in the cellar) and a larger one next to the serving area with the ales on. For my visit there were eight local ales available with four from the Tombstone Brewery, three from Milestone and one from Lodden.. Paddles are available for both the ciders and ales but we went for full measures and between us tried the Tombstone Texas Jack and Hopalong, the Milestone Hammerhead Stout and the Lodden Citra Quad Session IPA and they were all good. Still prefer the nearby Mariners for that true traditional pub experience , but this makes a very good double.

I didn't review this pub on BITE the last time I visited in 2016, due to their incompetence in adding new pubs. Luckily PubsGalore is much more on the ball.

However, the Tombstone Saloon remains the best pub in Great Yarmouth. It's run by a husband and wife couple. The guy also brews their own beers. He is really friendly, whilst his wife seems more of a character!

This is always a welcoming place. Locals are friendly and will enagage in conversation. Well behaved children and dogs are also allowed in.

The micropub is tucked away just off a side road and down an alleyway. It is a single-room place with some cask ales on stillage in the bar area and some fetched from the cellar. Ciders are also in the cellar. Both beer and cider is very competitively priced

Just 6 ales were on for my first visit - Brentwood Blonde & Falcon Punch, Tombstone Gunslinger, Harwich Town Mostly Mosaic, Heritage Charrington's Oatmeal Stout & Goff's White Knight. By the time of my second visit, Caveman Paleolothic, Tombstone Arizone, Elephant School Aussie Blonde & Portobello Star were on.

A grand total of 16 ciders were on - Gwynt y Ddraig Welsh Warrior, Lilley's Cherries & Berries, Collider, Apple & Blackberry Cider and Pear & Raspberry Cider, Abrahall's Lily the Pin & Slack Alice, Mr Whitehead's Equinox, Snail's Bank Very Perry, Damson in a Dress & Rhubarb Cider, Farmer Jim's Apple Red, Thistly Cross Jaggy Thistle, Cock Eyed Strawberry Blonde & Weston's Old Rosie & Vintage Medium Dry. These must turn over well, as Snail's Bank Orchard Dry & Sandford Orchards Devon Red had replaced 2 ciders on the list, just 5 days later.

If you're ever in Great Yarmouth, step away from the seafront and search this place out. Probably in my top 10 pubs/bars in the country.

Stumbled across this place, whilst following a cabby's advice to another one. Great find, and I reckon it meets the micropub definition. It's essentially the brewery tap and offers all their beers plus others. Around 8 beers on gravity plus a selection of bottles. Small, cozy, with a friendly clientele knowledgeable and passionate about beer. A great find.
