A tiny building, really only one storey plus attic rooms with dormer windows, and the public bar is so small that it can best be described as a snug, so the bar counter is necessarily minute. There are nevertheless three hand pumps. Batemans XB is the regular beer, with guests on the other two. I went for the Horncastle Angel of Light, the other one being an IPA with the phrase "punch in the nose" all I could read on a rather messy pump clip. The beer was not to my taste, and probably could have done with being kept another day or two before appearing on the bar, as it was very lively. The atmosphere was friendly, and there were a number of locals occupying seats in the tiny room, so I went and sat outside. There is another room, or possibly more, but I got the impression they would have been for dining.
