This Shpehard and Neame house, previously tenanted by Inde Coope, was built in the 1880s although a pub was licensed on the site in 1867. I found it very grand, airy and full of impressive architectural features. The single large U-shaped bar has a mix of tiled and wooden floors and a plain, sober decor. The effect is slightly marred by the gaming machine, jukebox and the odd wino festering in the corner. The staff appeared a bit dim and not particularly welcoming, apart from which their 'corporate' polo shirts looked silly. Outside at the back is a small courtyard and smoking area. They sell fresh coffee, and there is free wifi. It is effectively the station hotel, and it could be a good high street bolt-hole if the traffic system didn't make it so hard to get to. Only one ale on, Masterbrew, which was in reasonable condition. I might break a rail journey for a pint here depending on how much time and luggage I had, but I can't see my spending an evening here.

The Alexandra is located on a busy roundabout a stone’s throw from Chatham Railway Station and the local bus rank. I’ve driven by on the bus a few times and never seen the pub that busy. I was the only customer when I visited on a midweek afternoon before Christmas so there was no atmosphere. There was no background music and then lone plasma screen was showing a muted loop of adverts for the pub. This is a Shepherd Neame pub so the usual draught range of Oranjeboom etc. is available. The four hand pumps were hooked up to Master Brew (x2) and Spitfire (x2), although the latter was off. Thankfully there was some Guinness which was well served. There is a late license until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
I saw nothing here that would have me rushing back.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Alexandra
Imposing wedge-shaped corner pub, somewhat left on its own by previous road schemes demolishing its neighbours. Busy enough in mid-afternoon, but the barman seemed more interested in his laptop (and later reading a novel) than serving pesky customers. Pleasantly light interior from the windows on three sides. Four handpumps, two Master Brew plus Spitfire and an excellent Early Bird. Currently looking for a new tenant, and it shows with the staff issue, but a reasonable stop near Chatham train station.
